Empowering Students Through Project-Based Learning

Find clear answers to your questions about our academy, enrollment, and programs to help you navigate easily.

What does “STREAM” stand for?

STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Reading/Research, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. It expands on the traditional STEM approach by integrating literacy and creativity into every discipline, ensuring students think critically, solve problems, and innovate.

What values guide your school?

Our foundation is built on Family Values and a Culture of Care—principles emphasizing mentorship, empathy, accountability, and respect. We believe parents should have control over sensitive topics like moral and personal education, while we focus on academic excellence and character formation.

Do you offer scholarships or financial aid?

Yes. We participate in Florida’s Step Up For Students voucher programs, including the Family Empowerment Scholarship (Educational Options and Unique Abilities) and the Hope Scholarship. These programs can cover up to $8,500 of annual tuition.

What curriculum do you follow?

Our curriculum is based on American educational standards, including the Common Core (English and Math), Next Generation Science Standards, and National Social Studies Standards. We adapt these through Sawyer Scholastics-developed materials, ensuring they align with real family values and practical application.

What electives and life skills courses are offered?

Students can choose from a wide range of electives including Life Skills (home maintenance, budgeting, taxes), Sustainable Farming, Driver’s Education, Music, Arts, Culinary Arts, and Drama, plus Physical Education with Nutrition Education.

What is the Culture of Care?

It’s our unique approach emphasizing empathy, mentorship, and emotional intelligence. Every teacher is also a mentor, and every student is supported academically, socially, and personally.

Who teaches at Sawyer STREAM Academy?

Our teachers are certified educators and mentors who meet rigorous selection standards and receive continuous training in STREAM education, project-based learning, and restorative practices.

How are parents involved?

Parents are essential partners. We maintain open communication, offer volunteer opportunities, and invite parents to support our mission through classroom sponsorships or participation in community events.

How can I support Sawyer STREAM Academy?

Support can come in many forms—becoming a sponsor, donating to STREAM labs or classrooms, or joining as a community partner. Sponsorship opportunities start at $50,000 with benefits like recognition and naming rights.

Where is the school located?

Sawyer STREAM Academy is located in Tampa, Florida, and is fully registered with the Florida Department of Education (School Code 524644).

What makes Sawyer STREAM Academy different from other private schools?

We offer a dual-track education model that combines Advanced Placement (AP) college-preparatory courses with Project-Based and Vocational Learning. This ensures that every graduate is academically prepared and life-ready, with hands-on experience in real-world skills like auto repair, cooking, carpentry, and sustainable farming.

How do I apply for admission?

To apply:

  1. Contact us to express interest.
  2. Students will complete free entrance and diagnostic exams.
  3. Families will attend an interview and submit previous records.
  4. Upon acceptance, both student and parents sign a school contract agreeing to uphold our values, attendance, and academic standards (minimum 80%).

What if I’m an international student?

We welcome international students through our Homestay Program, which provides safe, screened host families offering a supportive home environment while attending the Academy. This allows cultural exchange and a strong sense of belonging.

What is Project-Based Learning (PBL)?

Each course begins with a leading critical thinking question. Students learn core concepts by researching, building, or creating something that answers the question—developing critical, logical, and creative thinking in the process.

What extracurricular activities are available?

Students enjoy a vibrant life with STREAM labs, athletics, clubs, arts, and community service projects. Participation is encouraged to develop teamwork, leadership, and social responsibility.

How does the Homestay Program work?

International and domestic students live with approved host families who provide meals, transportation, and care. The school provides training and 24/7 support for both hosts and students.

How does the school ensure teaching quality?

We use 180° evaluation systems, professional development, peer mentoring, and performance-based incentives to ensure excellence and retention among faculty.

Do homeschool students have access to the same resources?

Yes! Our Interactive Homeschool Program offers the same STREAM curriculum with teacher guidance, lab access, and eligibility to join school activities.

Do you partner with faith or community organizations?

Yes. We actively collaborate with faith-based and community groups that share our commitment to family values, mentorship, and education.
