
Course Purpose
The Grade 10 English Language Arts course is designed to develop students' proficiency in critical reading, analytical writing, and rhetorical analysis in alignment with the Common Core State Standards and the AP English Language and Composition framework. Course Description
This 36-week Grade 10 English Language Arts course offers a rigorous exploration of rhetoric, argumentation, and advanced writing techniques. Structured into thematic units, the course begins with foundational rhetoric and argumentation, introducing students to essential rhetorical strategies, argument structure, and analysis of various texts. The curriculum progresses to language, style, and persuasion, where students deepen their understanding of how language influences effectiveness and learn to craft persuasive and stylistically nuanced essays. The third unit focuses on research-based argumentation, guiding students through the research process, citation, and synthesis of multiple sources.
