These pages help you understand our curriculum development process and educational methodology. First, we explain where our development process begins, then we go through the various stages of entrance, learning paths and curriculum options.
Where it all begins!
As professional curriculum and assessment devleopers, teachers, and parents, we were not satisfied with what the ‘traditional’ big book sellers were providing schools with to teach our children. For example, many of us were not happy with various elements within textbooks that blatantly address issues with children that should be reserved for parents. In addition, we found that there are fabulous learning standards that have been meticulously developed by educators that have been misrepresented in most of the textbooks on the market. And finally, we found that while the world is changing significantly, the way of teaching and learning has remained archaic. Therefore, we decided to develop a curriculum that is solidly based in skills development with thousands of projects and presentations for students to do across every grade and subject, and to develp a curriculum that rests on the foundation of family values and incorporates educational standards that provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to be able to adequately compete against their global peers.
Standards
For English and Math, our foundation is the Common Core State Standards that were developed by teams of professional educators from all 50 United States.
For Science, we started with The Next Generation Science Standards, which were developed by science teachers.
For Social Studies, we started with the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies, which were developed by social studies teachers.
After analyzing the standards, we formulated easy to follow, clear grade/course outcomes. Then, we developed lessons, projects and presentations that lead students to the achievement of those outcomes. In addition, we have developed Personal Learning Paths that provide a straightforward way of tracking learning achievements as well as an easy way to identify shortfalls that can be worked on.
